Hello Everyone,

My problem may be very basic, but I could not figure it out for a whole week now and there is not anything on the internet that I could find.

My problem is to set the heat insulation boundary on LaplacianFoam. The problem consists of a 2-D rectangle of 1.5x10 cm dimensions. At one of the shorter sides, through and opening of 1 cm in the middle, a known amount of heat flux is supplied. At the other short side, this supplied heat is received. Anywhere else is insulated. It is known that the temperature is 45 C at the receiving shorter side, but the temperature is not known at the "heat supplying" side.

How do I specify unknown temperature for heat inlet and insulated sides of the geometry in "0" folder in documents T and/or gradTx/gradTy/gradTz?

Thanks in advance

Ali

Hello Ali,

It's easy as you already know the heat flux supplied. However, as you use laplacianFoam solver you may need to install swak4foam. Anyway, if you want to find out the proper specification of the desired BC take a look at my document. You won't find the specification for your case in the document (you will find the specification for an even more complex case instead), but at least you will get a good way to find it on your own.

Hope it helps,

Alex

The case I talk about in this site was solved with chtMultiRegionSimpleFoam solver and involves radiation. Some basic tutorials are also resolved step by step in the web. If you are interested in these matters, you are invited to come in!

thaks for your time

I am trying to simulate a piping with insulation on it.
I know the heatflux value for it.
Unfortunately when i try using it the solver stops without any error message.
Iam using sonic foam.
When i remove the BC and change it to zero gradient the solver works.
Can anybody help me out to sort this out.
Is the BC not available anymore in Openfoam?
Iam using V2006.
