How to determine time-averaged turbulent kinetic energy in LES?
Hi everyone,
I am performing a Large Eddy Simulation and I am interested in determining the time-averaged turbulent kinetic energy in the domain. I have read in the forum that to determine the total turbulent kinetic energy, I should add the resolved part of the TKE and the part of the sgs-model. I believe the resolved part of the turbulent kinetic energy can be achieved by the following: TKE_resolved = 1/2 * trace(UPrime2Mean) = 1/2*(UPrime2Mean_xx + UPrime2Mean_yy + UPrime2Mean_zz). Furthermore, the turbulent kinetic energy due to the sgs-model should be given from the turbulenceProperties_k file. Then adding these quantities should give the total turbulent kinetic energy: TKE_total = TKE_resolved + TKE_sgs I was wondering if this approach is correct and if the total turbulent kinetic energy achieved by this approach is the instantaneous TKE or is this already the time-averaged TKE? Thanks in advance for your help. |
