Hi Foamers,

I am simulating a pulverisied coal furnace using simpleCoalParcelFoam. I am facing a difficult problem.

I have successfully simulated the pulverisied coal furnace with radiation with DAF (dry ash free) coal. The moment I say there is ASH present in the domain the simulation blows up in the radiation part where particle and gas both the mediums are radiating.

Why the presence of ASH making so much of a difference ?
Can you please guide me on this ? Also can you suggest a solution for this ?

Gopal.

Hi,

I am going to do similar simulation in simpleCoalParcelFoam. I tried to do the modelling coalChemistryFoam but we concluded that a steady solver is much proper for such application. However, I am wondering if you have any tutorial case which could be used to setup my case.

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers,
/Pooria

Hi Pooria,

Unfortunately, there is NO test case for "simpleCoalParcelFoam".
But you can look at the coalChemistryFoam test case "simplifiedSiwek" and can setup your case.

Can you please tell me what are you trying to simulate using "simpleCoalParcelFoam" ?
And which version of OpenFOAM are you using currently ?

Dear Gopal,

I am going to use simpleCoalParcelFoal for modelling pulverised coal injection in blast furnace. I am going to use OpenFOAM ESI 2112 for that. I have been mainly working with interFOAM solver and quite new to this kind of solvers.

It would be so nice of you if you could give some hint to build up the steady state case for this solver.

Cheers,

Dear Gopal,

I am still stuck with the simpleCoalParcelFoam test case. Is it possible for you to share your test case with me. I really appreciate your help.

Hi Pooria,

Sorry for the late response as I was away with some project work.
Can you please look for the paper "TESTING AND PREDICTION OF PERFORMANCE AND EMISSIONS FROM BITUMINOUS (DRUMMOND COLOMBIA) AND SUB-BITUMINOUS (ADARO INDONESIA) COALS AND THEIR BLENDS" by Nadine Splitz.

It is published in Proceedings of PWR2006 ASME Power May 2-4, 2006, Atlanta, GA, USA
POWER2006-88065.

This will help you to understand the flow physics and will help you to set the solver. At the same time you also look into the test case "simplifiedSiwek" which will help you to setup the case in OpenFOAM.
