Hi all

I am currently running dynamic mesh simulations through pimpleFOAM on OpenFOAM 5.x, and was wondering if I can also solve for species transport of two species based on mass fraction.

Thanks

Hi Nadun,

This might be possible using driftfluxFoam, which solves the momentum equation for a mixture of fluid with suspended material. It is designed for suspended material which settles out. This settling velocity is superimposed on the advection diffusion equation you showed. In your simulation you sould set this settling velocity to zero. However, if you assume the density of the mixture does not influence the momentum you can solve for a scalar transport equation for instance described in this post: How to run scalarTransport functionObject?

"Ishi - Thermo-Fluid Dynamics of Two-Phase Flow" shows a nice overview of the drift-flux methodology. Also the ansys fluent manual shows a nice overview of the equations: https://www.afs.enea.it/project/nept...th/node308.htm .

However, the driftfluxFOAM solver does not come with dynamic mesh capabilities and you should add (program) these yourself based on the pimplefoam solver. With some insight in the openFOAM code, this is not that difficult.
