Getting a Wigley hull resistance case to run in OF 10

Hi,

I'm trying to learn how to use Openfoam i.o.t. calculate small boat wave resistance.

As far as I can tell the earlier Wigley hull cases were developed with older versions of OF (e.g. http://www.wolfdynamics.com/tutorials.html?id=149)

I'm getting a variety of errors when I try to run that case (e.g.https://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/op...-function.html )

Before I chase down these errors (and fixes), can folks recommend
what the best approach for a small boat wave resistance tool should be ? For example , an older version of OF that matches the use cases or a newer use case that runs with OF 10 (that I can't find) ?

Hi,

There are hull cases in the tutorials of pretty much any OpenFOAM version. I don't know what version you are using but have a look into $FOAM_TUTORIALS/multiphase/interFoam

If you go for validation cases found online, my best advice would be to run the case on the same OpenFOAM version it has been developed for. For sure you can adjust the case setup to your current OpenFOAM version but if you are learning how to use OpenFOAM you are going to struggle a lot to adapt it. It's better to start with a working case and learn how it works before trying to modify things.

The headers of the Wolfdynamics case seems to indicate it was setup for OpenFOAM-6.

Have fun!
Yann
