Wave generation accuracy

1 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone,

I am running wave runups simulations (OpenFoam v2312) and I noticed that the wave height used in waveProperties is not accurately reflected when the wave is generated, meaning that the amplitude of the wave is off and the crest and through elevation do not match the expected values around the initial water level.

Maybe I am missing something concerning wave theory, I am not that familiar with it, but to illustrate this, please find attached a picture of the StokesV tutorial for interFoam. The two lines are the max and min elevation according to the wave height set in waveProperties. We can see that the interface does not match accurately.

This does not seem related to numerical schemes (I tried backward temporal scheme and other 2nd order schemes for divSchemes) nor to the mesh resolution (tested from 10 cells per waveheight up to 40). I also tried to run the same case with interIsoFoam, but I get the same result.

Can anyone provide some insight? I don't feel confident about my results :D thanks!
