Help simulating a car radiator boundary conditions

Hello everyone,

Lately I have been using openFoam to simulate flows around cars. I have been using harpoon as the main meshing software and simpleFoam as the flow solver.

Long Story short the Car I am trying to simulate now has a set of radiators, which have been modeled after two thin plates. So far I have been running them as solid plates, but now I need to take the simulation a step further. That is to allow the flow to pass through the plates. I have some data to use for this, a pressure gradient.

So I was wondering if anyone could point me to a boundary condition I could use to simulate that.

Hi Leo

I would use af Porous zone, it works very well with heat exchangers.

Dear Rasmus

If I may take advantage of your patience for a little bit, I wanted to know how exactly did you model the porous radiator? I have been looking through the forums and so far I have been able to identify two methods

  • porous zones
  • porous jump (with cyclic BC)
the radiator I have is pictured by a thin plate, and the only information I have to go on about is the pressure gradient. Which method would be recommended for that.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.
