Dear OpenFOAM experts,
Can anyone here explain the differences between coodles and sonicTurbFoam? Is there such thing as "steady state compressible (Mach .5 - 0.9) turbulent flow"? Thanks! Pei |
sonicTurbFoam:
Transient RANS
sonicTurbFoam:
Transient RANS solver for trans-sonic/supersonic, turbulent flow of a compressible gas. coodles: LES solver for sub/trans-sonic turbulent flow of a compressible gas. |

When using oneEqEddy in LES, k is needed in /0/k. How is this k calculated for the inlet? Pei |

What kind of inlet are we talking about, i.e. fully/partially developed, laminar or slugflow?

Hi, Eugene,
Last time I did turbulence was 15 years ago. So, I am learning. Inlet will be fully developed turbulent. Is it LES generally more computational expensive than RANS? Especially, I have a complex geometry, so, may be I should stick to RANS kEpsilon model (I do not really want to resolve small flow structures)? Can you advise which solver will be appropriate for sub-sonic/transonic with kEpsilon model? Thanks again for your help! Pei |

Ho! You definitely dont want to be doing LES unless you have to. It is VERY expensive.
Try rhoTurbFoam for a compressible RANS solver, although I dont know how it will cope with trans-sonic flows. There is also sonicTurbFoam, but again this is not my area of expertise. Maybe someone who is more knowledgeable than me can give you some pointers on what the different RANS compressible codes do? |

What rhoTurbFoam is for? Is it suitable for mach .5? Pei |
rhoTurbFoam is for transient c
rhoTurbFoam is for transient compressible low-Ma laminar and turbulent flow and rhoSimpleFoam is for steady-state compressible low-Ma laminar and turbulent flow.

Hi fomers,
I am running a case with sonicTurbFoam with 3 mach velocity at inlet. whare as inlet static temprature is 110 K and pressure is 0.15 bar. I want to mainly capture the shock boundry layer interaction at inlet for air breathing engine. Can you please tell me what outlet conditions should i apply. any other openions regarding any tool to plot static pressure along surface is also welcome. Plase help me in this issue. Thanks |

Hi,
One more thing is currently i am using RNG K-Epsilon method. WHich scheme is best suite for capturing physics. Thanks ij advance. VIshal. |
