drag.H:3: error: `dragPatches' was not declared in this scope
drag.H:7: error: `dragDirection' was not declared in this scope

As dragPatches and dragDirection is declared inside the if-scope they do not exist outside these scopes. If you want to use the variables outside the if-sentence, then you need to declare them outside and set the value inside the if-sentence.
