Hi All,
This is the first time I am using transientsimplefoam...so these questions are pretty dumb I guess..First, I am trying to simulate a transient laminar flow with timevaryingfixedvalue patch as the boundary condition. I have turned off the turbulence option in the turbulenceProperties file in "constant" directory. The data file for the timevaryingfixedvalue patch has pressure values for every 0.1 seconds interval. My question is how do I select the optimum timestep in the controlDict file? Thanks all in advance Senthil |

Check out Hrv's comments on using transientSimpleFoam --> http://www.cfd-online.com/OpenFOAM_D...es/1/1807.html
PS: I personally started using transientSimpleFoam for my vortex shedding simulations a while ago. But then I faced a lot of problems with dispersion errors that forced me to reduce my time step. As a result I went back to PISO which works quite well :-) |

Hi Srinath,
Thanks for the link..The problem I am facing with the PISO is the small timestep. I know depends on the mesh but the variable timestepping for the icoFoam settles for a delta t of 1e-06 so I thought I would try SIMPLE. Is there a variable timestepping scheme for SIMPLE transient? something which looks the some measure of error like the predictor error or the continuity error? Thanks Senthil |
