Hi,
I am currently doing a CFD project and am specifically looking at compressible flows (M~0.45) over various objects. The flow is also assumed to be steady state and turbulent. I am not sure which solver will be best out of rhoSimpleFoam and rhoTurbFoam. The user manual suggests rhoSimpleFoam is only for ventilation and heat transfer, would it be any good for external flow? Does anyone have any experience with this type of problem and the best solver to use. Thanks very much for any help. Ryan |

If you want to compute a steady state solution, then you should go for rhoSimpleFoam. The other solver rhoTurbFoam is for unsteady solutions.

I am after a steady state solution, I was just a bit worried the FOAM manual says that solver is for ventilation and heat transfer problems. Just to make it perfectly clear, will this solver be fine for external flows?
Thanks very much for your help. Ryan |
Yes Ryan, I think it will.
