I am just getting started with OpenFOAM and it looks very promising.

On the OpenCFD website there is some mention of an ice deposition application where OpenFOAM was used to model ice growth on a cold surface. See http://www.opencfd.co.uk/solutions/examples23.html

Are freezing and melting supported by one of the solvers that comes with OpenFOAM? Or does phase change require a custom solver? Any direction that you can provide would be appreciated.

Phase change requires a custom solver. You can just start from interFoam and per cell change the gamma (volume of fluid) field according to the amount of freezing/melting.

HI Cutting
Have you succeeded in simulating ice accretion using openfoamt? I am facing a similar problem and I would like to know something more.
ThankS
