Hey,
The aachenBomb case use the dieselFoam application, you have mixed up your terminology there slightly. Since I started with KIVA and was part of developing the dieselFoam application I know what the important differences are http://www.cfd-online.com/OpenFOAM_D...part/happy.gif 1. KIVA solves for internal energy, dieselFOAM - enthalpy. 2. The spray models in KIVA are all available in the dieselSpray class (although turbulent dispersion is handled slightly different) 3. The chemistry/combustion in KIVA is a bit tediuous to use and the standard chemistry solver is not very good for larger mechanisms. The chemistry in dieselFoam is based on the CHEMKIN approach and use a correct stiff ODE solver. The chemistryModel in OpenFOAM has the option to solve chemistry as KIVA does (sequential), but I do not recommend anyone using it, since it was implemented just for direct comparison between KIVA/OpenFOAM. Further, the combustion model in dieselFoam is hard-coded and is based on Chalmers Partially Stirred Reactor model. You should be able to run any KIVA case (not using valves) in OpenFOAM using the kivaToFoam converter. N |

does anybody have some literature or documentation for the dieselFoam solver?? For my thesis, I have to know the basics how the Euler/Lagrangian approach is realized in OpenFoam!! What I already know is the basic idea of this approach - the gasphase is treated like a continuous fluid (Euler approach) and for the disperse phase the equation of motion is solved! But there are some things, that are unclear to me: (1) What forces are considered in the equation of motion for the droplets? (2) What kind of basic equations for the continuous phase are solved? (3) How are the two phases coupled? Is there just an influence of the continuous phase on the disperse phase or vice-versa or both?? (4) What equation are solved first - the continuous or disperse phase?? (5) The equations for droplets are solved every timestep?? ( I read, that it is common to solve the equations for the disperse phase just every 5...10th timestep) (6) Does turbulence influences the motion of the doplets?? It would be great if someone could help me?? Thanks, Michael |

I also would like to run the aachenBomb, but on OF1.5. However, in the tutorial folders, the input files for that turorial are missing... I downloaded OF1.7.1 and all of the required aachenBomb input files are there. Is it possible to use these input files and run it on OF1.5? Thanks! Andreas |
