DES in OpenFOAM

Hi,

i find the spallart allmaras modell in the LES case,
its the equals DES?

The coeffs look like DES, with CDES in the LESProperties !

hello everybody

I am looking for setting up a DES simulation, I was wondering if it is similar to LES (LESProperties). Do we need a file DESProperties in /constant and use the oodels code to run it.
Can anyone please let me know how to set up a DES simulation.

I guess, we just need to add RANS model as the wallfuctions to LES, right? Who can give some light?

Hi FOAMer

When we use RANS (Spalart_allmaras) with LES It show that we use a hybrid method. common hybrid method is DES that proposed with Spalart. In OpenFoam when we choice the Spalart in LES It show that we use from a DES method. We first must study about LES then About DES to work correct with it in OpenFoam. Two good references for this two step are :
1- Computational Fluid Dynamics, J.Blazek, Second Edition.
2- Trailing Edge Noise Simulations using IDDES in OpenFOAM, Master of Science Thesis, Olivier Verhoeven, 2011.

DES is a method that use RANS at the near wall and Use the LES at the far from Wall. the Cost of computational in this method is lower than pure LES but have a good accuracy. So It is a good choice for Industrial application.

Hi Budlo,
I tried to choose the LES with SpalartAllmarasIDDES model, is it the hybrid Rans/Les method? how to set the boundary condtions in the 0/ folder, i.e. nuSugs. Do you have some cases about IDDES simulation? thank you!

The best tutorial and example for IDDES in OpenFoam is :"Trailing Edge Noise Simulations using IDDES in OpenFOAM" by Olivier Verhoeven ,2011.
