Can OpenFoam deal with pressure waves in pipe?

Dear Foamers,
I'd like to know whether Openfoam can deal with the transmission of pressure waves in pipe. And I will describe the problem as below,

We often use the pressure transducer to detect the pressure oscillation, ie., unsteady pressure. And in this case, it's better to flush mount the transducer on the wall and make the transducer contact with the fluid directly. However, due to some confinement such as installtion space, cooler or sth, we've to use a small tube to conduct the pressure to another convinent place. Thus, we would care about whether the pressure waves acquired at the far end of the tube are the same as the original one. To say it more simple, we just want to find the frequency response of the tube system. How the frequency domain, amplitude, phase are changed due to the tube?

There are indeed some simple 1D theories for this. However, the bent of the tube, and the possible wave reflection are not involded. We want to study sth about this.
The length of the tube is around 1 meter and the upper frequency we care about is around 15,000 Hertz.
Can any module of Openfoam solve this problem?

Best Regards,

Hey,

by looking for a solution for my problem I found your post. I know it's long time ago you wrote that post but your problem seem to be quite the same as ours. So, did you find any answer to your question? Is OpenFoam able to deal with transmission of pressure waves in pipes?
I would like to simulate the the pressure waves in organ pipes.

Or maybe is there anybody else who can help me, because I'm not sure whether there is a standard solver or not.

Thank for your answers and best regards

Philipp

Well, Dang! I'm also looking for a solution for a similar kind of problem - actually, exhaust pipe and silencer design for internal combustion engines. The lack of response to the previous two questions makes me doubt that this is currently available in a workable form. But if anyone does know of something that can simulate sound pressure waves in a gas in a relatively small enclosed space

Try this:

Simulation of gas exchange and combustion processes in SI and Diesel engines: current state of models and exaples of applications (T. Lucchini, G. D’Errico, D. Ettorre, M. Fiocco, 2011)

Hi, thanks for that suggestion. It was actually just the sound waves emanating from the engine I'm interested in, not the combustion processes themselves. I'm presuming combustion is already over by the time I'm dealing with the raucously loud gases.

But thanks anyway :-)
