Hello,

I'm new with OpenFOAM. The case I'd have to solve is as follows:

- There are three solid particles (about 1-3mm width, height 5mm), a little gap between the particles (1-3mm) and at time t=0 there is a layer of hot liquid on top of particles. Picture is attached bellow.

- Hot liquid starts to flow between the gaps and around the particles due to gravity. The gas phase in between the particles is assumed to be air.

- The problem is three dimensional.

The main goals are:

1. I should calculate the temperature profile for solid particles caused by the hot liquid.

2. I'd have to model solidification of the liquid phase. Is this possible?

Is there anyone who could tell me which models to use/how to get started? Or is there an old thread on this topic already? I'd appreciate it very much if someone could give a hand here.

Thank you,

Petri Sulasalmi
