I have been working on simulating the dust particle intrusion on engine lubricating oil. The cases to be simulated are,

1. Solid partilcles + oil flow
2. Air + oil flow
3. Water + oil flow

Please anyone suggest that availability of sutiable multiphase models in OPENFOAM for above cases.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Suresh,

You could take a single phase solver (or two-phase with one phase set to zero) and plug in Lagrangian particles (have a look at icoLagrangianFoam).

Depending on the detail you want, you could go for interFoam (VOF) or twoPhaseEulerFoam (Euler-Euler). That is, if you're looking at e.g. a blob of oil rising in water, I'd go for interFoam, at least for a start. If you want to look at a massive cloud of small droplets, then I'd choose twoPhaseEulerFoam or even have the doplets as a Lagrangian cloud.

Hope this is a start!

Thanks.

Absolutely this is a good start. I will explore more to carry forward.
