DNS solver confusion

Dear fomers

I have been using pisoFoam for high Reynolds number flow over a cylinder simulations. At the moment, I am trying to run some low Reynolds number cases with a DNS solver. The dnsFoam is for box turbulence case with extra forcing term in it. However, I lloked at the icoFoam source file and it seems quite similar to the dnsFoam without the forcing. Does this mean icoFoam is a DNS solver or I am completely wrong?

icoFoam is a solver without any modelling for turbulence.

So it can be used for a laminar flow, or for a DNS. However, it will of course only be a DNS if your mesh will allow this etc. etc.

Hi stevenvanharen, Thanks for the speedy reply. Regarding to the mesh, you are saying it will only be a DNS is the mesh is designed for a DNS simulation?

should we except exactly same result if we solve a laminar case by icoFoam and dnsFoam?
Because there is an extra source term in dnsFoam...
