Hi all,

I need your help in finding the right solver for my Bachelor thesis. In the simulation should show the propagation and reflection of pressure waves in a pipe. Therefore I think I needed a compressible solver.
The fluid should be water. My problem is that all compressible solvers I can find in OpenFOAM (v. 1.7.1) work with perfect gas equations.
Does anyone know a fitting solver or if it is possible to use the solvers with assumption of perfect gas under certain conditions?

I´m looking forward to recieving your answeres

For transonic and supersonic liquids there is ~/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-2.1.x/applications/solvers/compressible/sonicFoam/sonicLiquidFoam

There is an example application in the programmer's guide (Decompression of a tank).

Hi alberto,

Thanks a lot! this solver really fits
I´m fighting now with setting an inital flow profile due to undesired pressure waves at that time. But this is an other topic.

Greetings

I just read in the description of the solver, that it is for trans-sonic/supersonic, laminar flow of a compressible liquid.
Does it mean the liquid should flow with transonic speed or is it possible that the fluid flows far below sonic speed (0.2 m/s) but observes pressure waves with sonic speed?
