to print residual or in a file...

Hi community,

does anyone know how is possible to print the residual (i mean the one computed in simpleFoam, for example) in a file in the way to plot it and see how it develops during time?

Or maybe, that will be better, there is a way to compute the norms...I mean:

norm=(mag(U2)-mag(U1))/(t2-t1)

where 1 and 2 stand for two different choosen times...

Thanks in advance for the guys will answer my post...

ps: I don't too much about c++...i can understand that for someone these are obvious things...

I know it sounds stupid but before you open a new forum thread you should use the "Search" function.

An useful thread for your kind of problem can be found here.

Hi,

Thank you for the answer, and i am sorry if i crossed with other thread...

The PyFoam is very usefull even if i got problem running it...By the way I want to ask if there is a way to compute the mag(U) residual...?

And how exactly the residual is computed?...if you can suggest me where to have a look could be great...

Thanks in advance

Hi,

It's not stupid and you are right...but i am new of the community...and also new about the possible probleam someone can find...so I didb't know how to find...anyway...

Can you explain me how the residual is compute please and if is possible to plot also the residual for the mag(U)?

thank you in advance!

Hi,

You can read the doctoral thesis by Hrvoje Jasak (spiritus rector of FOAM beside Henry Weller) Error Analysis and Estimation for the Finite Volume Method with Applications to Fluid Flows =>4.5 Residual Error Estimate page 173
