polyMesh in /0 folder

Hi together,

I was wondering why it is sometimes necessary to have the polyMesh folder in the /0 folder. It just seems to be a copy of the /constant/polyMesh folder.

Anybody found an explanation on this?

This is necessary, if you are working with mesh motion. This can change the position of your points. Some might even be deleted. Hence the mesh is not saved in the constant folder, but ends up in your time directories. Other examples are snappyHexMesh, extrudeMesh, mirrorMesh, splitMeshRegions etc. Those also modify your mesh by removing or adding cells. Hence your current mesh is not touched but a new version saved into your time steps.
