I've used OpenFOAM to simulate vortex produced by a pump at critical submergence. To calibrate the study, I've reproduced the setup from the paper "CFD prediction and model experiment on suction vortices in pump sump" by Okamura.
I'm happy to share with you that OpenFOAM give similar results of commercial software for reproduce the location and the intermittence of the transient vortex find in experimental model from this paper. Here's the general setup: - Geometry with SpaceClaim - Meshing with Ansys (Cutcell meshing) - OF version 2.3 - Solver interFOAM with large timestepping (Co = 2) - Turbulence model = k-omega-sst |
