Dear foamers,

I am currently doing thesis work on the flow inside tanks with recirculation, and I am trying to replicate the cases presented in: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.aquaeng.2012.09.002.

I am working with simpleFoam and interFoam to capture the water surface profile and to try and capture the bathtub vortex which creates at the centre of the tank. I modelled a 3D domain and a sector; I am concentrating on the latter to save on computational resources and save time.

I don't seem to be able to capture the free-vortex which generates at the outlet.

Has anybody tried a similar setup? Any suggestions/obersvations?

Hello everyone,
After numerous simulations and further reading, I have come upon the problem: the k-\omega SST turbulence model overestimates the \nu_{t} values in the free-vortex region, cancelling the free-vortex. The k-\epsilon realizable model seems to work much better, at least when it comes to modelling the free vortex generated at the outlet.

I include two screen-shots comparing the results obtained with both models.

I hope this might help someone in the future.

I excuse for the late response, but I just finished the semester exams and I am slowly getting back to these simulations.
