The tutorial verificationAndValidation/atmosphericModels/atmDownstreamDevelopment (OpenFOAM version 2312) should verify that in conditions of horizontal homogeneity, all the fields are conserved from the inlet across the domain up to the outlet. I made a simulation without changing any condition and the results seem to me quite surprising. While the velocity profiles are indeed conserved from the inlet across the domain, the vertical profiles of k are far from conserved, and most notably, a large peak close to the ground appears downwind, while the inlet condition is an uniform vertical profile. This seems inconsistent with both the articles cited in the case, that is, Hargreaves and Wright 2007 (vertically homogeneous profiles, conserved across the x-domain), and Sogachev2006 (vertically inhomogeneous profiles, but conserved across the x-domain). Has anyone performed simulations starting from this case? Does anyone have suggestions about how to overcome this issue? In the attached figure, the vertical profiles at the last iteration of the simulation (5000), comparing profiles at inlet, x=1000, x = 4950, and outlet. Thanks in advance for any feedback!
