Low-Reynolds Wall Funtion OF
 

Hi OpenFOAMers,

I am having a little trouble getting my head around how I can correctly implement the 'low Reynolds wall function' found in openFOAM.

I already have a pretty good grasp of y+ and the distances for high Reynolds flows (y+=30) or when the flow is low Reynolds then the boundary layer is completely resolved (y+=<1). Also keeping in mind the turbulence model used has its own criteria.

My question is this, If I have a low Reynolds flow where I would normally resolve the boundary layer and NOT use wall functions how does this low Reynolds wall function work (LowReWallFunction)? Also what y+ value would it require? :confused:

After reading this I feel I was getting closer (link below) but still not sure. Is there any journals that would cover this sort of question? There is plenty of low Re and High Re publications but not using a Low Re wall function.

Have a look at "A Thorough Description Of How Wall Functions Are Implemented In OpenFOAM" from Liu (2017). The link provided here:
