Hello everyone,

I'm really new to OpenFOAM. I tried to simulate a plate that rotates relatively to another stationary plate. The picture is in attachment.(I don't know how to insert a picture here. Sorry about that). I used icoFoam and everything seemed OK. Then I changed the rotating plate to another shape which has some grooves on it. Then the rotatingwall boundary failed. I searched the internet and found I needed to use rotating reference frame. But there are all turbulent solvers. and my problem is a laminar flow. Can someone teach me how to do this? Thank you very much.

Greetings pechwang,

Turbulent solvers usually have an option for turning off said turbulence!

If I remember correctly, it should be as simple as:
  1. Edit the file "constant/RASProperties".
  2. Use these options:
    Code:
    RASModel            laminar;

    turbulence          off;
Best regards,
Bruno

Hi Bruno,

Thank you for your reply. I have another question, since I turn off the turbulence, do I still need to define seven initial conditions for it? I think for a laminar flow it just need P and U. Is that right? Thank you again.

Hi Pengchuan,

It's as easy as doing some trial-and-error
If you remove all of the files from the "0" folder, except for "p" and "U", the solver will complain if there is a file missing!

Best regards,
Bruno
