I need to create a model of a super heated part, being submerged into Liquid to calculate the HTC's or the heat flux to put into a software for stress analysis. Does anyone have any insight into what solver to use for this, and if OpenFOAM can handle this? The part will be around 500-600 C and dropped into Oil at around 40 C. There are three phases of the transient problem. While it is being dropped into the fluid and for a very short time after, there will be a vapor film around the part, so the majority of heat transfer will be through radiation (and even conduction in the air), once this destabilizes then rapid boiling will occur. Finally the easy part is just cooling off through natural convection.
I think I might need to use multiple solvers and solve in three different phases, but I would like the software to predict when each phase is completed.

If I am right AVL FIRE can do this. They have some more papers on this aspect. Check out googling their new features. Let me know if you are not able to figure it out.

Thats a paper with AVL fire. Is there anything similar with openFOAM?
