Modeled Balance Equation

Hi all

I am trying to find literature on oneEddyEq model and why is it called modeled balance equation. What is meant by modeled balance equation?

Hi starter,

the oneEddyEq model solves an equation for the kinetic energy of the subgrid scales.
You can derive an exact equation for this k, but you still have to model some terms in it.
Therefore you can use an a posteriori modeled balance equation for the energy of the sgs.

This is mentioned here (a very good paper):
- On subgrid scale modeling in large eddy simulations of compressible fluid flow, Fureby C.

See page 5. Equation (15) is the one implemented in OpenFOAM. He also refs to Yoshizawa, if you want to have a deeper look.

Greetings,
Hans
