LES Simulation of 5-to-1 rectangular prism

Dear Foamers,

I am currently learning how to use OpenFOAM to 2D simulation vortex shedding of a 5-to-1 rectangular prism using LES in turbulence-free condition. I have followed OF tutorials to set up my case. I know 2D with LES in OF is not a good choice but I would like to set up a proper case in 2D first before switching to 3D.

My case runs alright but it gave me very high Strouhal number. Literature review shows St about 0.12 but my results are consistently between 0.16 - 0.2. The Reynold number is 600 and 6000. I am using Smagorinsky model to start up with.

Could anyone who have been researching on the similar topic give me a bit more insight into what could be my problem? Any responses are very appreciated.

Sincerely,

Tung.

Here is the mesh that I am using for my LES simulation and the velocity contour at Re = 6000 which is very strange to me since there are more vortices being resolved than expected. Thank you very much.
