Dear OpenFoamer,

Can OpenFoam do heat conduction analysis of a solid pad?

I've solved the distributed heat flux for a boundary surface from our own CFD software, but this CFD software can't model the heat conduction of a solid part. I heard that OpenFoam can do structural analysis, but I am not sure if it can manage my task.

Thank you in advance

Kan

Hi Kan

Yes, OpenFOAM can do that. The solver you are searching for is called scalarTransportFoam. A basic solver. However it also solves for convective heat transfer for a given velocity field. You have to set this U field to zero everywhere. This should do the trick. Alternatively you could use the solidDisplacementFoam. A solver for linear-elastic, small-strain deformation of a solid body, with optional thermal diffusion and thermal stresses.

Cheers
