Hello everyone,

I'm currently writing a journal article based on results obtained using OpenFOAM. I'd like to cite OpenFOAM, but the journal does not accept websites/URLs for a citation. The journal instead suggested that I use this citation (while asking me to verify that it's correct):
OpenCFD, OpenFOAM Programmer's Guide (Springer, 2004)

I tried looking in the OpenFOAM website and found this:
https://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/M...ce_OpenFOAM.3F

But it does not say how I can cite the documentation . Can anyone please help me with how I can cite the documentation?

I have a question: Q.) Which journal it is? This is something very strange. How would you cite/link your own source code?

The journal is Physics of Fluids.
And yes, it is very strange to cite your own code, which is why I'm not doing that.
What I meant was I want to cite OpenFOAM in general. Something like "All simulations in this article were run using OpenFOAM [1]" where [1] would be a citation to OpenFOAM, something that's not a web URL (since the journal does not accept URLs). Hope I've made myself clear.

I think "OpenFOAM-version number" should do the job

I typically cite the original FOAM paper:

H. G. Weller, G. Tabor, H. Jasak, C. Fureby, A tensorial approach to computational continuum mechanics using object-oriented techniques, COMPUTERS IN PHYSICS, VOL. 12, NO. 6, NOV/DEC 1998.

I'd completely forgotten about that paper! Thanks for reminding me

FYI, the DOI for the article is:

http://dx.doi.org/10.1063/1.168744

If you put that into a bibliography editor like Zotero or Mendeley the correct reference should pop out.

Hi everyone

Besides referring to OpenFOAM, I would like to refer to thermophysical data inside the tutorials of OpenFOAM. How would you guys do that?

I am currently just referring to OpenFOAM as a computer program (rather than a paper).

Best regards
Arne
