What does the following bullet in the foam-3.0 release statement mean?

** Library-level support for Immersed Boundary Method and Overset Mesh

I searched through the src tree for these items, but could not locate them.

Thanks!

Kevin

Greetings Kevin,

I suspect that "Library-level support" means that it's plug-n-play ready for connecting with the paid features for IBM and foamedOver... (note: I'm assuming they're paid, because I haven't found any public repository for them yet)

You might want to ask about this directly in the announcement page: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...end-3-0-a.html

Best regards,
Bruno

Hi,

I guess that "Immersed Boundary Method" should be integrated completely into new release: "foam-extend-3.0", as the first publication of Immersed Boundary Method material was at http://openfoam-extend.sourceforge.n...7_Program.html

The Dynamic Overset Grid implementation comes from http://celeritassimtech.com/
read more from their website. It is a commercial product, so I guess foam-extend-3.0 is prepared to make use of Overset, but you have to buy it (If you are qualified to buy it anyway there are some restrictions because military money made this technology)

Thanks for the information! I searched around for the class types mentioned in that paper "immersedBoundary*" and did not find anything in the current foam-3.0 code. I don't think it has been integrated at all actually. I suspect "library support" means you can plug something into foam-3.0 and it can do IBM and overset.

As far as I understand the suggar++ library isn't ITAR controlled, the integration of this library with OpenFOAM (foamedOver) however is. As long as you are from a country that can acquire US weapons you should be able to license suggar++. foamedOver is property of the US Navy.

This has nothing to do with foamedOver or sugar++. Wikki has developed its own organic overset capability.

I was trying to port the implementation of IBM method done in 1.6-ext to extend-project-3.1. I am particularly interested in simpleIbFoam. I compiled everything else I believe but the simpleIbFoam source code was not compiled. I came to the conclusion that "Library-level support for Immersed Boundary Method and Overset Mesh " means that the libraries that were used in the previous version, meaning
surfaceNormal
surfaceInvertNormal
immersedBoundary
immersedBoundaryForce
makeTriSurfaceMesh
refineImmersedBoundaryMesh
could be compiled in the new version. However, I found that those solvers are not compiled.

I would appreciate any comments

Is there anything new regarding the availability of overset library in foam-extend?

I've been loooking for it in the sources but I dont't find anything.

Will it be released in a future foam-extend version?

Hi Vincent,

my guess is that overset grid (implemented by wikki) will not be published.
But if you compare how long Immersed Boundary Method (IBM) was in wikki´s software repo and when it was released to public it gives a good comparison when they might publish overset grid in extend.

Another question what meshing software could you use if overset would be published in extend. Pointwise supports PEGASUS 5 software from NASA Ames Research Center and the Suggar++ software from Celeritas Simulation Technologies.
If wikki did not use Pegasus (and that has licensed as well to mesh in pointwise) what could be used to work with overset grid
