OpenFoam Lagrange Volume Fraction & Particle Size

I feel like I should be able to find these answers somewhere but cant.

Can anyone describe how particle volume fraction is taken into account in OF Lagrange? Some codes include it directly in transported conservatives (e.g., solves for phi*rho, phi*rho*Y, ext), but I do not think that OF is doing this. In my mind this means that the governing equations are only correct for dilute flow?

Second question: I know that having a particle diameter larger than the cell size can impact some of the boundary and face tracking (Hiting the wall by particle), but are there any other limitations?

In my case my domain contains 1D cells that are micrometer size in one direction buy quite a bit larger (~ 5x) in the other two directions. I need it like this so that particle concentration comes out correct. The volume fraction in each cell is low (<2%), but in some cases the particle diameter may be larger than the x direction cell resolution.

I have found fixes for the trackToFace routine but am wondering if I am going to run into any other limitations for having the particle diameter larger than the cell size?
