Difference between OpenFOAM_._.0 and OpenFOAM_._.x?
Can anyone please tell what is the major difference between the _._.0 and _._.x versions for e.g. OpenFOAM-3.0.0 and OpenFOAM-3.0.x. What does this x essentially represents?
I noticed that there installation procedures and ThirdParty contain varies by some extent. Am I right when I say this? Please someone give a brief info. Thanks in advance. |
There are changelogs documenting the changes version by version. Those changes may include bug fixes, new features, or new dependencies (new libraries or new versions of old libraries).
Installing OpenFOAM from source with all of its dependencies is not a small or quick task. I have a page of notes somewhere (that I haven't updated in years) to get me through the process of building everything from source and it will take hours, even on a large core machine. Unless you need to understand the compilation and dependencies for some particular reason (sysadmining a cluster running OpenFOAM, say), you are better off just installing the binaries. |
