CompressibleInterDyMFoam with 6DOF body
I'm trying to determine how to best simulate a large object hanging by a cable under water. The goal is to prescribe the motion of the top of the cable and simulate the motion of the large object as it moves through the water. The motion of the object will be large compared to the domain (20% of the length), so I worry about the mesh. Is it possible to set up a case that occasionally re-meshes as time goes on, or will the dynamic mesh be able to handle it.
My object is a complicated .stl. I normally use snappyhexmesh to generate 3D volume mesh with about 10 million cells. Is it possible to use snappy or do I need to switch to overset grids? Can I prescribe the motion of the upper end of the cable? Maybe making the cable a very stiff spring and moving the upper end is an option? I am running OpenFoam version 3.0, but I am willing to upgrade to version 4.1. Regards, Lenny |
flexible cable
hi dear
My model is a body floating in water that with flexible cables anchored. Can OpenFoam software do the modeling of flexible cables and their transformations? help me please |
OpenFOAM does not model cables.

Mooring Line
Hi Leonard and Reza,
Waves2foam has added the ability to model mooring lines 3 months ago. https://github.com/ogoe/waves2Foam/t...es2FoamMooring |
