OpenFOAM stores U and p results in ".gz" files
 

Hey,

My current build (OpenFOAM 4.0) stores the U and p values for each time in .gz files. Everything seems fine when I am in paraview however I am unable to use postprocessing tools, for example getting the xyz components of the velocity via postProcess utility. When I extract the folders into the directory gedit tells me the file has unidentified characters and cannot be viewed.

Does anyone has any idea how to fix this?

Hey,

just deactivate the compression in your controlDict by setting the "writeCompression" entry to off or uncompressed. Maybe switching the "writeFormat" from binary to ascii also leads to further improvement.
