Snappy Hex Mesh External Domain

I am trying to mesh a NACA airfoil and simulate an external flow. I am using snappy hex mesh to mesh the airfoil, but when I run snappy hex mesh the external domain disappears. All that remains is a meshed airfoil. I have tried two methods. The first is just inserting the NACA airfoil into the blockMesh domain. The second is inserting the an external volume with the surface mesh of the airfoil inside. I run the snappy hex mesh with out any errors output. I then look at the mesh in paraFoam, but the external volume on time step 1 and 2 is gone, the only patch there is the airfoil. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

Hi Wil

In your snappyHexMeshDict file, make sure that the locationInMesh coordinates are outside the STL used to mesh the aerofoil. It sounds like you may have chosen a point inside the STL, hence it is only meshing the inside of the aerofoil as opposed to the exterior.

Thats it. All of the tutorials I found online said to put the location inside the mesh, but they were all for internal flows. Thanks
