Hello,

I want to simulate the effects of aeration (using air bubble) on stratified dam reservoirs by using OpenFoam. The simulation is imposed on a 2 dimensional vertical field and the purpose is to obtain the velocity field.

I would be so grateful if you could kindly help me in selecting an appropriate solver in OpenFoam to tackle this problem.

Hello Arash

To capture two phase effects in a simulation of a real life dam size problem, I would suggest you look at twoPhaseEulerFoam solver. The other option is interFoam, though I suspect the necessary mesh size will be too large to capture aeration effects which you desire. Though I see it is a 2-D problem, so then interFoam could be an option, though capturing many bubbles becomes very computational intensive. Have a look at the twoPhaseEulerFoam tutorials (bubble column) and the interFoam ones such as the weir Over Flow to determine which will best suite your needs.

Hi Brian,

I have to simulate a 3D aeration tank with a residence time around 2.5 hours. What's the best choice for such as large time scale?

Dear Friends
I am simulating aerator in a large tank. Since I am simulating both aerator and large tank at the same time, I want to use the same mesh size all over the domain to avoid different timescales(eg if I use smaller mesh for aerator, my time step will be much smaller). To do so, I have used fvOptions to generate a source of momentum to push the water out of the channels and also suck the water to the aerator(You can see it as a red cylindrical momentum source).

I have done all aforementioned things using pimplefoam(I am just working with water instead of water and air mixture), but my simulation is instable. Now, I have two questions;
1- How can make it stable?

2- Is there any other way I can simulate the outlet of the channels without considering the aerator chamber? If so, what is happening to continuity equation? since mass increases inside the domain without any outlet.

3- Do you have any other suggestion for me?
