Reynolds's Number and Mesh Size Relationship

Hey all,

I have two cases that I am running with simpleFoam and a k-omega SST model with a Yplus of 30:

Case 1) Reynold's number of 500,000 and a mesh size of 50 million - "I ensured that the solution was grid independent."

Case 2) I then scaled the geometry along with the flow domain and increased my Reynold's number to 5,000,000 - "I maintained the same velocity so Re would increase."

The solver started to diverge after a couple of iterations with Case 2. I know that this has something to do with the grid size since my case files are the same except for the initial omega value which I changed because of the larger geometry.

So would my mesh size need to be scaled with an increase in Reynold's Number? Would this mean that my mesh would need to have around 500 million cells approximately?

Thanks,
Kevin
