stator rotor contacted

Hi,
I am using Openfoam to simulate the rotation of a propeller within a cylinder region. In reality, the stator and rotor have a thin gap. But it is really hard to get a good mesh when the thin gap is included. It is too thin and very very fine mesh needed to resolve this. And then the time step is restricted to 10e-6 due to the courant number requirement.
Now I want to remove this gap and let the stator and rotor contact with each other. They will share some faces. But then I don't know how to define the rotating region then. I am using ANSA to generate mesh. Anyone has experience about this could suggest something?? I will be really grateful.
Thanks!

Hi,

I think you should be able to work with ACMI interface, where you can have uncovered faces in the AMI interface act as if they touch a wall. It is similar in set-up as AMI, which can be done in ANSA via the OPENFOAM Deck -> AUXILIARIES -> INTERFACE. Not sure if there is any tutorial available for this.

As for the OpenFOAM part, best guess would be to search this forum.

Regards,
Tom

Hi Tom,
Thanks for your reply!
I searched in the forum and got the same impression that ACMI should be the suitable boundary condition I need. I am now doing some trail test on ACMI. I still a little confused about the interface definition. So thanks for the suggestion about the ANSA, this is exactly what I need now! :D
I will update the case when I got some result.
Thanks!
