I have a made a geometry to simulate the flow around a cylinder using FreeCAD and exported it as .stl file. I am confused how to proceed next? I am using pitzDaily case directory for this simulation. Where to begin my simulation and which all files I need to alter?

I tried to change the vertices in blockMeshDict file but I failed. Can there be a technique in which I can import the stl file and the vertices can be updated automatically. Since, my geometry seems complicated after exporting it through MeshLab and there lot of vertices mentioned which I can not understand.

You will need to look at some basic tutorials about how OpenFOAM works. Usually, we start with a geometry in CAD, export to STL, mesh this with snappyHexMesh, put the result into a simulation case and run. Ofcourse you will need to know what you are doing in each step.

You can bypass a bit of that, if you are already in FreeCAD, by installing the cfdof workbench, which is available in the addon-manager of FreeCAD. There you can go from your geometry, assign the boundary conditions, create a mesh and simulation case in the GUI. This will give you an easy start into OpenFOAM. You can then study whats in the case and learn to adapt to more complex cases.

I would also suggest to follow a tutorial that actually uses an STL file such as the motorbike tutorial. You will see there how to use snappyHexMesh
