OpenFoam paraView snappyhexmesh generation problem

Hi everyone,

I am currently new to openFoam and I'm in need of running simulations for my job. Due to the PC I was given at work I had to download openFoam on windows 7. It seemed to work okay for some basic tutorials but when I tried to make a more complicated mesh using snappyhexmesh I have ran into problems.

After I make my initial boxmesh I am able to see it generated in paraview, but when I try and upload my stl file in paraview it does appear in my files... I have changed the 'Files of type:' , re-saved it, changed the location, and anything else I can think of but still no luck. So basically paraview is not recognizing stl files. Are there a few important steps to open up a stl in paraview? From what I have seen and read I should be able to open up paraview and at least view the stl.

Come to find out while going through the propeller tutorial, I am able to open .obj files..

I have been following a few tutorials and I get stuck at this same step and need to figure this out before I can move on so any advice would be helpful

Hey,

do you really work on Windows? If so, I would recommend that you use a virtual machine and Linux, as unpredictable errors can occur.

To open an STL file you simply have to choose Open. Then go to the constant folder -> triSurface and select the STL from there.

To see your network in sHM you have to open it with
Code:

paraFoam -touchAll
create the necessary files.
I hope I could help you.

Unfortunately atm I don't have the ability to access a virtual machine...
But still no luck...
