Hello,
i am trying to run an interFoam turbulent simulation of a channel where water is injected at a specific flow rate.
Unfortunately i am not able to run the model.
Can anyone please review it?

My filed can be downloaded from the following link:

https://wetransfer.com/downloads/12e...2041606/23a77b

Thank you in advance.
Nic

Hi,

Your case is identical to one of the tutorials provided for interFoam, named 'waterChannel'.

The main problem with your case was that the top boundary of the channel was set to a wall BC. interFoam requires an atmospheric pressure boundary condition in order to operate (see the tutorial case).

I have adjusted your case boundary conditions (also had to remesh it in order to specify the atmospheric patch) and it is working now. Note that alpha inlet BC is set to fixedValue 1, however zeroGradient is sufficient as well, given that you initialise the alpha field near it, so the inlet patch should pick up the value.

Cheers,
Ben

Wow Ben That's awesome!
I didn't have time today to go through the files but i will check them on Monday.

Thanks for your support: it's really very much appreciated!
This forum is amazing. I couldn't expect a faster answer!

Hi Ben,
First of all merry belated Xmas.
I finally got some time to look at your revised files and now the simulation runs smoothly. Thanks for that!
I'm now trying to make things more complicated and i'd have a couple of questions if you could be so kind to give me your advice.

1) I'd like to run the model keeping a constant water level at the downstream end of the channel. How would you setup this case? How would you setup it if the downstream end of the channel was full of water and pressurised too?
2) how can I specify the roughness of the walls? In hydraulic applications we normally use a friction coefficient (e.g. Manning ,Gaukler-Strickler , Hazen-Williams and so on). How do you work this out in cfd modelling?

Appreciate your help,
Nic
