rohitkjohn is on a distinguished road
Hello,

I am studying a vibro impact damper and the effects of a fluid on its damping capabilities. It consists of a cavity filled with fluid and a ball. The cavity is subjected to an external oscillating force so that it oscillates.

I want to simulate the fluid dynamics to calculate the flow and get the surface forces acting on the cavity as well as the ball. It thought I could use openFOAM for this, however I do not know if the rigid body solver would be sufficient for this as the ball will make contact with the walls and bounce.

Can I develop a solver to solve the rigid body dynamics and link it to openFOAM to solve the fluid dynamics. If so how do I do it?

Kind Regards
RKJ
