I stumbed across a vibrant FEniCS Slack community with the kind of well organized exchange that you would expect in a collaborative open source project.

Could the OpenFOAM community build and maintain a Slack workspace too? I find CFDOnline a bit dated with its interface, chat, and media sharing. The sheer breadth of OpenFOAM makes it a great candidate to decompose into channels when asking for support. I've personally forgotten fixes I've done myself too. This would be nice to document.

I was told there was a certain FOAM Documentation Project that was sued by ESI-OpenCFD. Would this potentially be a similar infringement?

Wanted to correct the mistake above:

The project and some of the information regarding the project and court matters can be found here. The lead person of the project was "Holger Marschall".

ESI-OpenCFD Ltd. DID NOT sue the project, since it was not existing on 2009 (can be seen here). Also "Holger Marschall" is the current head of the Multiphase Technical Committee of the OpenFOAM Governance being steered by the ESI-OpenCFD Ltd (can be seen here).

On the other hand, -no need to name it- everybody knows who loves suing or threatening to sue people on honest and praiseworthy initiatives, and still being able to claim the guardians of the open-source software.

Hi Mustafa,

as a follow up from last years workshop there exists a Discord- and an IRC-Channel. The issue was also discussed during this year's edition of the OpenFOAM workshop. We also discussed to create a channel particularly for beginners. In my opinion it would be better to rather revive the Discord-Channel instead of opening another platform as it fragments the community even further.

If you want I can send you an invitation to the discord-server. :-)

Just my 2cents,
Patrick
