Porus Media simulation with ANSA pre-processor
 

Hello all,


I am trying to simulate flow through a metal woven screen as shown in the attached image. I use ANSA for mesh generation. How do I simulate this using porusSimpleFoam ? I understand that I have to define cell zones where the porous media exists. However I do not know how to do this in ANSA. If anyone has attempted this type of simulation before, please share the workflow that you use.

cellZones in OpenFOAM are different solid PIDs in ANSA (I think ANSA calls volume PIDs solids by default). So you need to create different volumes in ANSA, where your porous medium gets a PID assigned to it called porous and the other volume/volumes are called fluid for instance.

Then just export normally. I think you can even setup the porous medium completely in ANSA with all the files outputted along with your mesh, but I usually just copy these kind of files from another (old) case.

Thank you for the response, I think I forgot to select the volumes as porous in ANSA. I will check it out, do you assign the darcy and forcheimer coefficients in the pre-processor or do you assign it seperatly in the porosityProperties file ?

Personally I adjust the OpenFOAM text files, but that is a matter of preference. You can try the preprocessor, but I have no experience on it.
