Create unstructured grid mesh in openfoam

To simulate using a mesh composed of tetrahedral elements instead of a structured grid in OpenFOAM, would it be best to generate the mesh using a different tool like Fluent and then import it? Also, is it possible to use the setFields utility on this imported unstructured mesh in OpenFOAM?

Thanks

Hey,

There is no way that you can create a tetrahedral mesh in openfoam using blockMesh/snappyHexMesh. If you want to use fluent, I believe you would be able to create a hexahedral mesh with ease, even if the geometry is complex. If you want to stick with the opensource world, I would recommend SALOME, which is the program I use.

Regarding the setFields, in OF11 I use the mapFields option. I am not aware if it is possible to map a hexahedral mesh in a tetrahedral mesh, but I can't find a reason why it would not be.
