We are planning to arrange regular meetings (Stammtisch) of OpenFOAM users to discuss their problems, help each other and establish a network of users in the Stuttgart / Heilbronn area in Germany.
The first meeting will be: October 15th, 2008, 3:00 pm University of Cooperative Education in Mosbach, Germany If you are interested (also if you cannot attend the first meeting), please send me a mail janoske@ba-mosbach.de. Uwe |

Hi Prof Uwe
I would be interested in it too, Although I do not live in Germany, I am a portuguese recently graduated in Mechanical Engineering , and an user of OpenFOAM. Think that if I could work/live in Germany I could attend those meetings in a regular basis... BTW, Meetings will be on a monthly basis...? Alex |
I am also interested in that.

Hi to all,

Hi to all,
I wanted to list some of my interest, which I like to discuss or start a 'joint-implementation'; obviously I am having some difficulties with it :-) - implementing hybrid RANS/LES turbulence models; which should be based on the existing RANS/LES models - implementing a 'compound' wall treatment, which could reduce the mesh dependency at the wall for all low-Re turbulence models; I am thinking about the approach of Popovac - conjugate heat transfer calculations with phase change - a simple convergence check by looking at probes being in a certain threshold ... Maybe, some of your interests tend to something similar!? Regards! Fabian |

Hi,
some kind of regular meeting sounds very good. I would also be interested. Are there perhaps some general POI's for the first meeting, how many persons are still in and do you think about some meeting abstracts/agenda? regards micha |

Hi Micha,
I tried to start listing my interest and hoped that the other follow. The first meeting could probably be some get to know each other interest and discussing, what kind of regular meeting one is interested in. E.g. a meeting, where some joint-projects get started and presented later on. The presentation could be directly with the laptop on source-code basis explaining the theory and the implementation. So everyone can learn from each other...what do you think!? Actually I forgot to mention, that there is a need for a non-reflecting pressure inlet boundary condition as well :-) Fabian |

here are some of my interests, i suppose they point into a completely different direction compared to yours: - multiphase flows - visco-elastic fluids - free surfaces Best regards Christian |

Ok,
that means the main part will be some introduction and discussion? So to collect some more themes, my main interests are -mesh motion -free surfaces -optimization If there are some more organisational facts... nice to hear from. regards micha |

Hi guys.
In my opinion an adaptive wall function for RANS models would be a very important topic. As I know, there is no adaptive wall funtion implemented by default. Maybe some of you have some interest or experience in it. An adaptive wall function will have some interesting advantages, as you might have seen in other cfd-codes. When you will use a low-reynolds model, you will have the posibility to coarsen your mesh in non-important regions also near the wall, because a wall-funtion could be activated if y+ will get to large for low-re models. On the other side, the convergence of high-reynolds models on fine meshes (e.g. y+ < 2) could be improved when using an adaptive wall function, for example like the one in CFX. Think about it! Best reguards Fabian D. |

Very good idea and I am happy to come down to the South if access is granted to people from the North ;-)
However, I would like to ask two things: 1) Is this meant as a nucleus of a German speaking user group - as suggested by the title of the thread. If yes - wonderful, if no - Is there the need to have one? 2) I see the specific benefits of a "Stammtisch", i.e. a local group meeting quite regular on a more informal basis. Anybody interested to start one up in the North? Best Regards, Henrik |

Hi Henrik,
of course, all the people from the North are welcome. 1.) That was the intention of the meeting. I would be happy if we could start a German speaking user group. This is one point which we should discuss during the meeting to define further steps establishing a German user group. 2.) I would also come to the North (if access is granted..) See you in Mosbach Best regards, Uwe |
Hi folks,

Hi folks,
concerning an OpenFOAM "Stammtisch" up in the North. Our numerical group (at least four guys) at the University of Rostock would like to start up a regular meeting in northern germany. @Hendrik: "a local group meeting quite regular on a more informal basis" You hit the nail on the head. This is exactly our point of view. Also from our project coworkers we get an increasing interest in such regular meetings. So I think we could connect people working with OpenFOAM from a wide range of research topics. Of course everybody is invited (also the people from the south ;-)). If anybody is interested the first appointment could take place on 29. Oktober 2008 Department of Technical Thermodynamics Univeristy of Rostock. For further questions please send me an Email johann.turnow@uni-rostock.de regards Johann |

Thanks for your interest and "Northern Stammtisch" sounds quit good. Of course, we can switch the date up to 5. Nov. But let me please wait a few more days for other guys to find a date where most of them could attend the meeting. regards, Johann |

Dear Stammtisch-People,
the Southern Stammtisch in Mosbach agreed to set up a mailing list at Sourceforge to announce the Stammtisch meetings and discuss matters off-line. Of course, the organisers will continue to announce the meeting on the forum (maybe the announcement is section is more appropriate) and Wiki. The mailing list is open to all Stammtisch activities. I am also happy to share administrative effort. The participants of the last Stammtisch in Mosbach will be included automatically. Anybody else can sign up here: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/...end-stammtisch Best Regards, Henrik |
