1. Is it possible to use Open Foam to calculate the drag of a given simple 3D object like a faired bike in this image

(the image was assumably produced with Solidworks)
?

I intend to optimize the fairing to have as small drag as possible when a person is lying horizontally inside it. Some kind of 'virtual wind tunnel' would be ideal.

Open foam is not available for windows 2000 (?). Could you recommend a solution for Windows?

Certainly. There is a steady state incompressible solver simpleFoam which will do this.

You will have to do the mesh generation and optimisation yourself.

See http://www.cfd-online.com/cgi-bin/Op...=7303#POST7303
for a windows port.
