Hi,

would you please help me on this. am looking at this function

dev(symm(fvc::grad(U)))

but I dont know what "dev" means. I know "symm" means that the matrix for grad(U) is symmetric i.e. [grad(U)] = transpose[grad(U)]. Does dev mean the deviator or what.

Please bare with me. am just learning.

Why have you posted your message under the thread "New Forum"? That is really unhelpful for people searching the forum for information about Tensors. "New Forum" is the LAST place they will look.

By contrast, it is an easy search to find the definition of dev in the code:
$FOAM_SRC/OpenFOAM/primitives/Tensor/TensorI.H
